Project Summary

A multidisciplinary ground investigation was required to provide geotechnical and geo-environmental data for the proposed redevelopment for housing at a former airfield site.

Project Details

Unexploded ordnance supervision (UXO) was required due to the sites moderate risk status, along with Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) for service clearance, prior to the investigation commencing.

The work was carried out using a using our in-house Fraste multi-purpose drilling rig, a CPT rig and trial pitting.

All works were supervised on a full-time basis by suitably qualified in-house Engineering Geologists.

Geotechnical logging was carried out to BS5930: 2015+A1:2020, BS EN ISO 14688 [Parts 1 and 2] and BS EN ISO 14689.

The program of works included:

  • CCGI as Principal Contractor
  • UXO supervision
  • Service tracing using GPR
  • 6 multipurpose combined boreholes to a maximum depth 30m
  • 6 CPT boreholes
  • 30 trial pits
  • 28 DCPs
  • In-situ testing including SPTs and hand shear vanes
  • Geotechnical and geo-environmental laboratory testing
  • Factual reporting
