Training for Hand-Arm Vibration Supervision

Exposure to vibration at work through the use of hand-held tools or machines can cause Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS), Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) and Dupuytren’s Contracture.

Latest available published figures from 2023 recorded that there were 15 new cases of Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome, 115 New cases of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and 120 New cases of Dupuytren’s Contracture. Regular and frequent exposure to hand-arm vibration can lead to permanent ill health, and these figures indicate that training in the monitoring and control of the use of hand held tools is essential .

CCGI, in accordance with The Control of Vibration at Work Regulations 2005 (the Vibration Regulations), aim to protect workers from risks to health from vibration. The regulations introduce action and limit values for hand-arm and whole-body vibration, and by providing in house training CCGI ensures that our workforce is trained and competent whilst supervising such work activities.

QHSE Manager Alistair Cima yesterday provided training in HAVS to our field team of engineering geologists. Using an interactive approach Alistair makes sure that they all have a full understanding of the process to use during their supervision duties onsite.
