August saw our second company Down Day of 2018 held at our Gloucester headquarters. These offer the opportunity to down tools for the day and bring our field crews back to base for training, inspections, company updates, and offer some well deserved ‘team building’ in local hostelries.
We covered a variety of training subjects this summer, ranging from hand-arm vibration awareness, contract management and commercial awareness training, plus the Road Haulage Association provided driver tachograph training for our Drill crews. With all the plant and equipment back at the yard it was also a good opportunity to carry out some rig and tackle Loler inspections.
The day was a great success, with good food, good banter and some company awards. Congratulations to Ben Bush (Cable Percussion Lead Driller), who was voted Company Person of the Year by his peers and Andy Leek (Dynamic Sampling Lead Driller) on his Ten Years Service award. Both top guys and brilliant drillers. Rotary Lead Driller, Shaun King, was also awarded a Trust & Integrity Award by the East West Rail Alliance (EWR) project team for outstanding planning and execution of work on this ongoing project. This simply confirms what those of us that work with Shaun already know. Well deserved.
