This year’s event was an action-packed day. We had several classroom sessions running recapping H&S law and what it means in the context of site investigation works. We demonstrated how our safe systems of works dovetail with regulations, and ran a commercial session on the importance of site investigation programming and the cost of doing business. There was also a quiz on the costs of drilling equipment and consumables, a session on our new HAVs workflow and risk assessment including monitoring and recording procedures, and technical briefings and recaps for our engineering geologists. Many of the drillers also attended a practical training session on abrasive wheels and the use of brush cutters and strimmers.
We also used the day to roll out our new style risk assessments and method statements that illustrate typical set ups for those that are less familiar with the type of work we do, incorporate enhancements from lessons learned & staff/client feedback.
There were also plenty of bacon butties, biscuits, tea and of course an obligatory spoof awards ceremony. There were also 10 years of service rewards to Carl Leek, Chris Scrivens, Shaun King, Lewis Cotterell and Jeff Fennell.
